Ju toomehelbed jätvad jumalaga / Flakes of the bird cherry tree bid farewell
ja sirelite õitseaeg on käes: / and the time of lilacs blooming has arrived
kõik pungad pakatavad täies väes, / all buds burst in full force
kõik põõsad sinetavad maja taga. / all bushes behind the house are blue.
Ja öösiti nüüd ei ma enam maga: /And I don’t sleep at night anymore:
mu süda õhetab kui hõõguv ääs – / my heart glows like a fiery furnace –
Ah, sirelite õitseaeg on käes! / Oh, the time of lilacs blooming has arrived!
Kuis võiks ükskõikne olla ma ja vaga! / How could I be indifferent and pious!

(Kuid sind ei ole siin) – miksjaoks, misjaoks siis päev / (But you’re not here) – for what, for what, then, was the day
nii täis neid suuri lilla õisi loodi?
/ made so full of purple flowers?
Misjaoks siis öö, nii heldelt valgeks jääv, / For what, then was the night, so generously white remaining,

nii lõhnulaotavalt ümber minu voodi? / is spreading all scents around my bed?
(Nii raske üksi kõike ilu kanda –) / (So difficult to bear all this beauty alone –)
kuid sind ei ole siin, (et teda sulle anda). / But you’re not here, (to give it to you).
